Products & Design
A good sprinkler system starts with a sound design, uses quality
products to distribute and control water, and is installed with
care to give years of reliability and performance.
Design
The most important thing to understand is that any sprinkler
head delivers water in a non uniform circular pattern, and physics
dictates that the further from the head, the less water will
be delivered. To compensate for this fact of life, sprinkler
heads are placed so that they throw head to head, which is why
a good design has seemingly lots of heads. Your water source,
whether city, river or groundwater must be evaluated for volume
and pressure, so that all those heads can be divided into Zones.
The site must be assessed for plant material; grass, flowers
and shrubs, planters and baskets, and appropriate sprinkler heads
selected, whether rotors, sprays or drip. Throw in ground and
soil characteristics, slope, and shade, put it down on paper,
and that is your design.
Products
We have found that both Hunter and Rainbird products have
performed well, and use a Combination in our systems

Rotors
Gear drive Rotors (so called because rotation is driven by
internal gears), are used for larger lawn areas, from 15-30 ft
radius
|
|
Spray Heads
Spray heads are good for smaller grassed areas such as drive
strips or medians, flower or shrub beds, will throw a fine spray
between 5 -15ft. |
|
Drip Heads
Drip irrigation delivers a very localized drip feed to the root
zone of plants, usually in pots or planters |
|
Control Valves
Each zone is controlled by a solenoid activated diaphragm valve
(control valve), which turns the water on and off to each zone.
Valves are grouped together as a manifold and buried in small
green service boxes placed unobtrusively around your property |
|
Controller
This is the brains of the system, (also called a timer), and
sets the time of day the system turns on (usually very early
morning), the frequency (every day, second day etc) and the length
of time that each zone waters. You can manually override the
timer, to play with your system, increase or decrease times,
have multiple start times, OR, you can set it and leave it
like most people. |

Rain Sensor
This is really smart, and will turn the system off if it rains,
usually 1/4" of rain will de-activate the system and prevents
wasting water, saving you money.
Backflow Preventer
Protects the municipal water supply from cross contamination,
required by the local plumbing code.

Installation
Contrary to popular opinion, installing a sprinkler system does
not wreck your property. We pull the poly pipe underground with
a machine called a vibratory plow, which leaves a nice clean
slit across through the sod. For a quality installation, look
for these pointers:
- Ground repaired, excess dirt removed or raked in.
- Sprinkler heads are leveled and adjusted to cover the area
- Timer is hung smartly in an accessible location, usually
a garage or shed with 110v power
- Excess material is removed and the job site left clean
- Time is taken to run through the timer and explain the system
- You are covered by a two year warranty (residential) or one
year (commercial) with a commitment to service
- Includes the first year Winterization in the price
